Methodology & data notes

Methodology v1.0 · 2026-10-21 · A clear definition behind every number.

Source and sample boundaries
Data comes from Product Hunt launch records. PHIndex is independent and does not represent official Product Hunt statistics or the global startup market. Votes do not measure users, revenue or demand.
Dates and completeness
Dates use UTC and include the current UTC day by default; today’s data is still updating and does not represent a complete day. Collection revisits the previous day; coverage is verified only after every page in a window succeeds. Historical records alone do not prove completeness. Unobserved dates are gaps; observed dates without verified coverage remain partial samples. Weekly and monthly buckets aggregate only the selected date range and may be partial calendar periods.
Deduplication and launch definition
Each canonical Product Hunt product page is counted once. Repeat collection updates the record without increasing the count. This measures deduplicated products, not every relaunch event. Launch dates use featuredAt when available, otherwise createdAt.
Domain suffixes
Only products with resolved eligible root domains are included; subdomains are excluded. Unresolved products are omitted from the domain denominator but may appear in categories, keywords and daily activity. Different product pages sharing a domain count as separate products, not unique domains.
AI categories and keywords
Each product receives one primary category and up to three keywords. Chinese and English aliases map to canonical terms before deduplication. Keyword coverage divides matching products by AI-analyzed products; the total may exceed 100%. Automated classification may be incorrect. Original product descriptions retain their source language.
Period comparisons and share changes
Comparisons use the immediately preceding equal-length period. Both periods must have verified collection, completed relevant domain or AI processing, and be closed. A zero previous count never produces infinite growth. Share changes use percentage points (pp): 12% to 15% is +3 pp.
Additional perspectives and limitations
Daily activity includes all deduplicated products. Category–domain combinations include only jointly eligible samples. Results show associations, not causation. Revenue, user growth, country market shares and predictive investment scores are not provided without verifiable data.
